For Heaven’s Sake
When Paul McCartney sings the middle bridge of the song, “My one and only love” - “The blush of your cheek whenever I speak, Tells me that you are my own” It reminds me the same chord progression of Billie Holiday’s “For Heaven’s Sake” - “Just hold me tight, we are alone in the night. Heaven is here with a kiss”
Surprisingly, the two lines are talking about exactly the same thing - Let’s fall in love.
They are singing with the same wearing voice. Both voices weared because of the ages & singing tearing the throat apart.
Lady Day has to find a way to handle it. She was broke and everybody discarded her. Miles Davis helped with the last chance of a recording contract and she needs to sing to survive. That makes the song and vocal performance legendary.
While McCartney still finds a way to handle his voice on this type of songs because of the vocal change. I don’t agree other people saying that he doesn’t care about making albums. He still do. But it takes time.
